Position Overview

The City of Roanoke is seeking an After School Recreation Assistant to perform responsible work in leading and facilitating youth development and recreation programs and activities with the Department's After-School PLAY program (for elementary school age children).

Responsibilities
  • Lead and facilitate youth development and recreation programs and activities with the Department's After-School PLAY program for elementary school age children.
  • Assist children with homework assignments.
  • Collect registration documents, write receipts, make deposits and complete assignments on computer.
  • Develop new and creative programs, build and maximize neighborhood and community relations, and utilize effective communication (both orally and in writing).
  • Other duties as required.
Qualifications
  • High school graduation or equivalent education.
  • Minimum one year experience in a daycare or after-school setting.
  • Certifications required upon request – ARC Standard First Aid and CPR.
  • Knowledge of youth development and community activities including fitness and movement, art, nature study, and crafts.
Hours

The program is administered during the regular school year and is expected to work approximately 20–25 hours per week.
