AIS is seeking a certified Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (ToDHH) to join our team of independent contractors in the Roanoke area of Virginia for the 2026‑2027 school year. ToDHH are itinerant and provide in‑person services to students with hearing loss in local school divisions.

The Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing functions as a member of a student’s educational team to provide direct instruction, consultative, and support services for educational achievement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Utilize evidence‑based practices to assess and develop auditory skills, language development, and educational achievement.
  • Comply with special education services within federal, state, and county procedural guidelines.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students identified as eligible for Hearing Impairment services.
  • Provide ethical and evidence‑based treatment guided by data collection, response to treatment, and ongoing analysis of developing academic skills as well as auditory and language skills.
  • Communicate and consult with students, parents, educators, administrators, and outside agency professionals.
Qualifications
  • Virginia Teaching License with an endorsement in Hearing Impairment.
  • Working knowledge of assessment and instructional strategies, evidence‑based research, recommended best practices, technologies and assistive hearing technologies, and expected roles and responsibilities of a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing within a school environment.
