Children’s Director

Classification:
Part time-Salary $13K - $19K (Based on experience and availability) Weekly average of 10-15 hours

Purpose and Scope

The Children’s Director is under the direct working supervision and evaluation of the Senior Pastor. However, there is freedom for the Director to make this ministry their own. This position will care for the spiritual beginning and maturity of children at Preston Oaks Baptist Church. He or she will work within our church teaching the Bible and leading the children’s ministry.

This position will be essential in uniting our purpose as a church within the community and vice versa.

Responsibilities
  • Administers the Preston Oaks Baptist Church Children’s Ministry – Plans, develops, and directly supervises the implementation of all facets of the Children’s Ministry program. Supervises all related volunteers. Manages the Children’s Ministry budget. Responsible for VBS, summer camp, and any other activities of their choosing.
  • Children’s Sunday Morning Program – Required participation in Sunday morning children’s programs promoting the Children’s Ministry through prayer, lessons, drama, or other appropriate means. Plans, expands, and enriches the children’s Sunday morning program. Coordinates the Sunday morning volunteers and check in for all families.
  • Community Outreach – Assists in developing outreach activities that will attract children and their families to the church. Contacts children and their families when the children have been absent from normal activities. Contacts children and families in times of crisis and celebration.
  • Mid-Week Children Ministries – Developed and administered as needed.
  • Children Programs – Coordinates and oversees various Children’s Ministry programs.
  • Volunteer Training – Recruits volunteers and provides training to equip them to nurture the spiritual development of all age groups.
  • Nursery – Oversight to nursery volunteers to ensure a safe and adequately staffed nursery. Also follows the procedures for background checks, policies, and evaluations as they arise.
  • Other Duties – Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor. This position requires a flexible schedule for weeknight and weekend events, with a focus on Sunday Service and including special programs for Christmas, Easter, and other events as needed. The position also works in conjunction with the Deacons, church staff and various church volunteers. As the ministries grow, it is understood that duties may be added and additional staff and resources allocated to support the growth of the ministry.
Qualifications
  • An associate degree or certification in Christian related children’s ministries from a recognized college, university, or denominational program is desired but not required.
  • A minimum of 2 years in the children’s ministry or an education space for children aged 0-12 is desired but not required.
  • Excellent written, organizational, oral communications and multi-tasking skills.
  • Demonstrates the ability to implement a dynamic, interactive, creative and experiential children’s ministry program.
  • Ability to provide oversight of all children’s activities within the church and related programs from the age of nursery to fifth grade.
  • Knowledge and experience in different forms of media (video, audio, and visual technology) would be helpful.
  • Able to work with a team and independently.
  • Emotionally intelligent with a love for reaching people.
  • Has a stable and Christ rich lifestyle. If married, a strong relationship with a spouse who fully supports the ministry.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • A deep love of Jesus as a baptized believer and in good standing at their current church.
