About the RoleWe are seeking a Field Project Manager to lead execution of transformer installation, commissioning, warranty, and field modification projects at customer sites.
This is a hybrid role combining structured office-based project engineering responsibilities in Roanoke with planned field deployment during key execution phases (installation, oil processing, testing, energization, warranty response).
The role requires strong commercial awareness, technical understanding of power equipment, and confident leadership onsite.
Travel requirement:
Approximately 30–50%, depending on project phase.
- Serve as the project owner following order release.
- Coordinate with, contractors, customers, engineering, manufacturing, logistics, and field service support teams.
- Develop project schedules, execution strategies, and site readiness plans.
- Track project budgets, labor forecasts, subcontractor costs, and margin performance.
- Lead customer status meetings and manage scope changes and change orders.
- Identify and mitigate commercial and technical risks.
- Manage onsite installation, assembly, oil processing, testing, and commissioning activities.
- Coordinate subcontractors, crane providers, oil processing vendors, and customer stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards (OSHA, customer requirements).
- Manage critical lifts, energization procedures, and site acceptance testing.
- Resolve technical and schedule issues in real time.
- Ensure proper documentation and turnover packages are completed.
- Provide structured feedback to improve field readiness and manufacturability.
- Support development of standard work and execution playbooks.
- Drive continuous improvement in field productivity and customer experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (required).
- 5+ years of experience in field engineering, commissioning, or project execution in power systems, transformers, substations, or high-voltage equipment.
- Strong understanding of transformer assembly, oil processing, and testing preferred.
- Experience managing subcontractors and jobsite safety.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
- Comfortable leading customer discussions onsite.
- Willingness to travel as required.
- PMP certification or field commissioning background is a plus.
- Lead mission-critical transformer projects that power data centers, renewables, utilities, and critical infrastructure.
