Position SummaryThe Welding Specialist – Corporate Coordinator is responsible for developing, standardizing, and optimizing welding processes across VTC manufacturing facilities. This role ensures high‑quality weld integrity, compliance with industry codes, and consistent execution of welding procedures. The position serves as a subject matter expert in welding technologies, supporting production, quality, and engineering teams to enhance product reliability and manufacturing efficiency.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and standardize welding processes across multiple manufacturing sites
- Ensure compliance with AWS, ASME, and API welding codes and standards
- Create, qualify, and maintain WPS (Welding Procedure Specifications), PQR (Procedure Qualification Records), and WPQ (Welder Performance Qualifications)
- Support and optimize welding processes including GMAW, GTAW, FCAW, and other arc welding methods
- Evaluate and control process variables affecting weld quality and performance
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for welding defects and non‑conformances
- Oversee and support welding inspections and NDT methods (VT, PT, MT, UT)
- Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams to improve weld design and manufacturability
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, APQP, and FMEA methodologies
- Develop and maintain welding procedures, standards, and work instructions
- Conduct audits to ensure compliance with welding standards and quality systems
- Support new product introduction (NPI) with welding process development, validation, and implementation
- Train and mentor welders, inspectors, and production personnel on welding techniques and standards
- Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical, Mechanical, Materials, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
- Minimum 3+ years of experience in manufacturing, welding engineering, or quality engineering
- Strong knowledge of arc welding processes (GMAW, GTAW, FCAW, etc.)
- Experience developing and qualifying WPS, PQR, and WPQ documentation
- Knowledge of AWS, ASME, and API codes and standards
- Proven ability to apply root cause analysis tools
- Bilingual:
English (B2/C1) and conversational Spanish - Strong communication and cross‑functional collaboration skills
- Knowledge of materials standards (ASTM, ISO, EN) and weld metallurgy
- Experience with non‑destructive testing (NDT) methods (VT, PT, MT, UT)
Familiarity with quality management systems and process auditing - Experience with metrology, calibration, and validation of welding equipment
- Background in training, instruction, or technical development
- Experience in transformer manufacturing, pressure vessels, or heavy industrial fabrication
