About the Role
Join the power team at GFT as a Substation Physical Engineer (Electrical Engineer) based in Roanoke, VA, Charlotte, NC, or fully remote for the right candidate. Your work will involve cutting‑edge projects across power transmission, distribution, and renewable energy, leveraging advanced technologies and creative problem‑solving to meet diverse energy needs.
Responsibilities- Lead or support utility and power substation projects up to 765kV.
- Prepare and develop engineering deliverables, including physical general arrangements, electrical one‑line, detailed layouts, equipment selection, specifications, and electrical calculations.
- Conduct power system studies such as short‑circuit, load flow, thermal cable, shielding, lighting, grounding, and other related analyses.
- Coordinate with engineering and design teams to integrate design packages and meet schedules.
- Provide technical specifications, conceptual layouts, guidance to drafters/designer, and track project status.
- Manage multiple projects, ensuring design packages comply with engineering standards and safety codes.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Professional Engineer license or on the path to licensure.
- 3+ years progressive experience in power and utility design, engineering, and project management.
- Experience in high‑voltage substation and distribution projects.
- Proficiency with project management software (e.g., Microsoft Project).
- AutoCAD, Micro Station, or Inventor experience preferred.
- Strong communication and client‑relationship skills.
Salary range: $107,000–$165,000, adjusted for experience and location.
