The Principal Geotechnical Engineer is responsible for performing advanced engineering work activities and projects that require the application of engineering knowledge in a safe, effective, efficient, and economical manner.
Job SummaryThe Principal Geotechnical Engineer will provide leadership, technical guidance and engineering oversight for geotechnical design and construction projects within the electric utility domain, ensuring compliance with industry standards and company policies.
Responsibilities- Lead earthwork, retaining wall, slope stability, and landslide mitigation design.
- Design foundations (e.g., drilled piers, steel grillages, steel caissons, micro piles, helical piles, driven piles, and guy anchors).
- Perform subsurface investigations and desktop geological research.
- Oversee geotechnical construction and review foundation and landslide mitigation designs.
- Prepare and review technical documentation and reports.
- 8+ years of geotechnical engineering experience (or 6 years plus a master’s or PhD in engineering).
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET‑accredited program.
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico preferred.
- Experience with electric utility projects preferred.
- Proficiency with SLOPE/W, foundation design software (FAD, LPILE, SHAFT, GROUP, etc.), and Civil 3D.

- Approximately 20% travel to field sites for electric transmission lines and substations.
- Monday through Friday, 8 hours per day; occasional overtime as approved.
- Engineer Principal (SG9): $130,000 – $150,000
- Engineer Staff (SG10): $150,000 – $170,000
