SFCS is seeking a Structural Engineer with approximately 3–7 years of experience to join our Roanoke, Virginia office. This position offers the opportunity to work alongside architects, engineers, interior designers and planners in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment while contributing to meaningful projects that positively impact communities across the country.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical foundation in structural engineering, a desire to continue growing professionally, and a passion for delivering thoughtful, practical, and innovative design solutions.
Qualifications- Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Structural Engineering.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required;
Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or actively pursuing licensure. - Approximately 3–7 years of experience in structural engineering with a focus on commercial, institutional, healthcare, senior living, educational, or government facilities.
- Experience designing structural steel, cast-in-place concrete, precast concrete, masonry, cold-formed metal framing, and wood-framed structures.
- Working knowledge of applicable building codes and industry standards.
- Experience with structural analysis and design software such as RAM Structural System, ENERCALC, Floor Vibe, Stru Ware or similar programs.
- Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments while maintaining attention to detail and quality.
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, and project teams to develop efficient, code-compliant, and cost-effective structural solutions.
- Participate in project planning, structural system selection, and preliminary design studies.
- Perform structural analysis and design for new construction, additions, renovations, and adaptive reuse projects.
- Conduct field investigations and evaluations of existing structures to support renovation and rehabilitation efforts.
- Prepare structural calculations, technical reports, specifications, and construction documents.
- Coordinate structural systems with architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and civil engineering disciplines.
- Develop structural construction documents utilizing Revit and AutoCAD.
- Utilize structural analysis and design software to evaluate and verify engineering solutions.
- Participate in construction administration activities, including shop drawing review, responses to RFIs, site observations, and evaluation of proposed changes.
- Support and mentor junior engineering staff while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, and project stakeholders.
