Senior Financial Analyst
Carilion Clinic, a not‑for‑profit, mission‑driven health system located in Roanoke, VA, is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst to lead the financial planning, budgeting, and contract negotiation for a portfolio of sponsored clinical research studies. The analyst will ensure financial integrity and regulatory compliance, provide advanced financial analysis, forecasting, and risk assessment, and serve as a strategic partner to investigators and leadership, driving informed decision‑making and process improvements across clinical trial operations.
Responsibilities- Lead development of complex clinical trial budgets, ensuring accuracy, feasibility, and alignment with sponsor requirements.
- Negotiate budgets and contractual terms with industry sponsors, government agencies, and external partners.
- Manage a portfolio of clinical trial grants and contracts, ensuring timely execution and overall financial integrity.
- Ensure compliance with federal regulations, institutional policies, and sponsor requirements across all activities.
- Perform advanced financial modeling, forecasting, and variance analysis to support planning and decision‑making.
- Monitor portfolio performance, identify financial risks and opportunities, and implement corrective actions as needed.
Serve as a strategic thought partner, providing recommendations for change management and driving course corrections. - Lead and contribute to financial process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and reporting.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or business administration; or 4 years of experience in lieu of a degree.
- Minimum of 3 years of finance or accounting experience.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, analytical, organizational, and time‑management skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office, advanced knowledge of Excel, and ability to learn job‑specific software.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize multiple projects under deadlines, and demonstrate strong accountability and follow‑through skills.
- Detail oriented, high degree of accuracy, and ability to ensure reasonableness of work.
