Position Summary
The Dental Biller is responsible for accurately billing, posting, and reconciling all dental claims and payments in compliance with FQHC billing requirements, payer regulations, and organizational policies. This role ensures timely submission of claims, proper follow‑up on denials, and accurate reporting of billing activity to support financial sustainability and compliance within the dental/billing department.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and submit dental claims (electronic and paper) to Medicaid, Medicare, commercial insurance plans, and managed care organizations in accordance with FQHC billing rules.
- Verify dental procedure coding and documentation for accuracy and compliance with CDT, ICD‑10, and payer guidelines.
- Review daily patient encounters and reconcile visits against billing reports to ensure completeness.
- Post all insurance payments and adjustments timely and accurately in the electronic health record (EHR) or practice management system.
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims, research reasons for rejections, correct errors, and resubmit claims as necessary.
- Process patient statements and coordinate billing aspects of the Sliding Fee Discount Program per FQHC policy.
- Collaborate with dental providers, front desk, and eligibility staff to ensure accurate patient demographic and insurance information.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of FQHC billing requirements, payer contracts, and compliance regulations (HRSA, UDS, HIPAA).
- Participate in staff training sessions, process improvement initiatives, and cross‑departmental meetings related to revenue cycle management.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in business, accounting, or healthcare administration preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of dental billing experience in an FQHC, community health center, or similar healthcare environment preferred.
- Knowledge of EHR and practice management software (e.g., Dentrix, Next Gen, Epic, eClinical
Works) with emphasis on dental modules.
- Strong understanding of CDT and ICD‑10 coding as they apply to dental services.
- Familiarity with FQHC PPS (Prospective Payment System) billing and encounter rate processes.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and reconciliation.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast‑paced environment.
- Commitment to patient confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA standards.
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- May occasionally need to lift files or office materials weighing up to 10 pounds.
- Hybrid:
Office/clinical setting within a community health center/Remote setting - Occasional attendance at staff meetings, training sessions, and continuing education programs.
