Position:
Psychiatric Technician – Adult Rehab (Open)

The Psychiatric Technician assists with ensuring the safety of adults and children with mental illness on an acute psychiatric hospital unit. Responsibilities include delivery of patient care, providing assistance with activities of daily living, secretarial support, leading goal/wrap‑up groups, and directing code secure activities. The technician functions as a team member, reporting observations, maintaining a therapeutic milieu, and assisting nursing staff with escalated patients.

• Deliver patient care and support all unit activities as indicated.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living and meeting nutritional needs.
• Provide secretarial support and complete admission/discharge processes and documentation in chart/EMR.
• Organize, prioritize, and provide nursing care in accordance with unit standards.
• Observe patients and report any unusual circumstances to the licensed nurse.
• Conduct patient safety rounds every 15 minutes or as per unit policy.
• Perform delegated patient treatments such as EKGs, blood glucose testing, I/O, enemas, etc.
• Advocate for patients, protect their rights, and provide psychological, social, and cultural support.
• Lead and direct code secure activities with staff and security, functioning well in crisis situations.
• Participate in quality management and performance improvement activities, including cost‑containment measures.
• Maintain equipment and supplies, charging appropriately and ensuring proper storage.
• Perform clerical duties under supervision of licensed nursing staff.

• High school graduate or GED required.
• Must complete De‑escalation training within four months of hire and maintain it thereafter.
• Must obtain AHA BLS‑HCP certification.
• Valid Virginia State driver’s license required for patient transport.
• Ability to manage patients with explosive potential and/or escalating situations.
• Ability to function with minimal supervision and recognize when assistance is needed beyond scope.
• Ability to learn, participate as a team member, and communicate effectively during escalated situations.
• Clinical skills to work with child, adolescent, and adult populations, understanding their growth and development.
