The Patient Care Technician (PCT) works in a 20‑bed PCU dedicated to Neuro/Trauma surgery, secondary stroke care, an Epilepsy Monitoring Unit, and Chronic Ventilator patients. The role is full‑time on the night shift, with every other weekend and rotating holidays. A $7,500 sign‑on bonus is available when the external candidate meets applicable guidelines.
Responsibilities- Performs basic clerical and technical clinical services related to patient care, cleanliness, safety, and comfort.
- Assists patients with activities of daily living, documents and reports patient observations to licensed staff.
- Transports patients, supplies, specimens, and equipment within the facility.
- Contributes to performance‑improvement activities, participates in unit quality audits, and assists with chart audits.
- Supports unit scheduling, covers lunch assignments, receives and screens incoming calls, and routes calls to the appropriate individuals.
- Maintains cleanliness, performs safety/environmental rounds, and assists with registration and way finding.
- Processes equipment between patients, cleans unit equipment, and operates office equipment.
- Leads admission, transfer, and discharge processes, coordinates patient flow into and out of area using unit‑specific software and intranet.
- Assists with regulatory compliance, including code cart checks, refrigerator, glucose meter, and equipment room storage.
- May conduct phlebotomy, non‑sterile wound care dressings, saline lock replacement, and colostomy bag changes when competency appropriate.
- Participates in unit huddles, IDR/rounds, and unit or organizational councils/committees.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- No prior experience required.
- Certified Nursing Assistant required if working in a critical access facility.
- Effective interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills required.
- Must successfully complete orientation and competency validation for the position.
