Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA) ED (Open)

Carilion Clinic is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) - Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join our Emergency Medicine team. This is an excellent opportunity for an APP who enjoys variety, high-acuity medicine, and working as part of a collaborative Emergency Medicine team. APPs are integral members of our department and have the opportunity to practice across all areas of the Emergency Department, gaining broad clinical experience while caring for a diverse patient population.

With more than 88,000 patient visits each year, you will encounter a wide range of illnesses and injuries—from lower-acuity concerns to complex medical emergencies and trauma. Responsibilities include evaluating, diagnosing, and treating patients; ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies; performing procedures within scope of practice; developing treatment and disposition plans; and collaborating closely with Emergency Medicine physicians, nurses, specialists, and other members of the care team.

Emergency Medicine requires 24/7 coverage, and shifts include days, mids, overnights, weekends, and holidays. We are committed to providing a fair and equitable scheduling process across the APP team.

Team members also have opportunities to work at other Emergency Departments throughout the Carilion Clinic system including community and critical access sites, providing additional variety and exposure to different practice environments and patient populations and to increase professional development as well as to enhance work:life balance.

Our ideal candidate will have completed a postgraduate Emergency Medicine fellowship.

• At least one year of Emergency Medicine experience
• Family Medicine or Internal Medicine experience combined with Urgent Care experience
• Strong new graduates who have completed robust Emergency Medicine clinical rotations and demonstrate excellent clinical skills, judgment, and readiness for a fast-paced environment

Education: Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Program required.

Experience: Clinical experience appropriate to specific practice/ department preferred.

Licensure/Certification: Current Physician Assistants license (PA) required. DEA licensure required. AHA BLS-HCP certification required. Advanced life support is preferred and is required for those who may use a defibrillator in their practice.

Other: Meets credentialing requirements. Qualifies for malpractice insurance and is accepted by Carilion Clinics malpractice insurance carrier. Ability to work collaboratively with physicians and other health care providers.
