Applications Developer, Power BI Engineer & Tester

Position Summary

Virginia Transformer is seeking an Applications Developer, Power BI Engineer & Tester to support the development, enhancement, testing, and reporting of business-critical applications and data solutions. This role will focus on building and maintaining Power BI dashboards, supporting internal applications, validating data accuracy, and partnering with business stakeholders to deliver reliable, actionable insights across the organization.

The ideal candidate has a strong blend of application development, data visualization, and testing experience, and is comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing and engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities

Application Development

• Develop, maintain, and enhance internal business applications and tools.
• Support application integrations with ERP, manufacturing, and operational systems.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve application issues.
• Collaborate with IT and business teams to gather requirements and implement solutions.
• Document application functionality, workflows, and technical specifications.

Power BI & Data Analytics

• Design, develop, and maintain Power BI reports, dashboards, and data models.
• Build and optimize data transformations using Power Query and DAX.
• Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and performance across reports.
• Work with data sources including SQL databases, ERP systems, and other enterprise platforms.
• Partner with stakeholders to translate business needs into clear, actionable dashboards.

Testing & Quality Assurance

• Perform functional, regression, and data validation testing for applications and reports.
• Validate data integrity between source systems and reporting outputs.
• Develop and execute test plans, test cases, and documentation.
• Identify, track, and resolve defects in collaboration with developers and IT teams.
• Support user acceptance testing (UAT) and production releases.
• Provide Tier 2/3 support for application and reporting issues.
• Assist with system upgrades, enhancements, and deployments.
• Identify opportunities to improve data quality, reporting efficiency, and system reliability.
• Maintain clear documentation and follow IT best practices.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 3+ years of experience in application development, data analytics, or business intelligence.
• Hands-on experience with Power BI (reports, dashboards, data models).
