Director of Supply Chain, Materials & Logistics

Position SummaryVirginia Transformer Corp. is expanding its supply chain organization and is seeking a highly accomplished supply chain leader with demonstrated expertise across Supply Chain, Materials Management, and Logistics
. This role will serve as a key member of the supply chain leadership team and will be responsible for driving operational excellence across planning, procurement execution, inventory management, warehousing, transportation, logistics, and material flow throughout the organization.
While candidates may possess deeper experience in one discipline, the ideal individual will have broad leadership exposure across all three areas:

This position will partner closely with Operations, Engineering, Purchasing, Quality, Finance, and Manufacturing leadership to ensure material availability, inventory optimization, on-time delivery, and efficient supply chain execution across Virginia Transformer's growing manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities Supply Chain Leadership- Develop and execute supply chain strategies aligned with business objectives, customer requirements, and growth initiatives.
- Lead supply chain performance improvements focused on inventory optimization, service levels, throughput, and working capital.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across planning, materials, warehousing, transportation, and logistics functions.
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators to improve operational execution.
- Oversee materials planning, inventory control, warehouse operations, and production support activities.
- Ensure material availability supports manufacturing schedules and customer commitments.
- Monitor inventory levels, excess inventory, obsolete inventory, and inventory turns.
- Manage MRP parameters, safety stock levels, and planning strategies.
- Lead shortage management processes and material escalation procedures.
- Ensure effective execution of planning tools, hot lists, EPPM processes, and production support activities.
- Lead inbound and outbound logistics operations.
- Optimize freight spend and transportation performance.
- Manage carrier relationships and logistics service providers.
- Improve warehouse efficiency, inventory accuracy, and material handling processes.
- Develop strategies that improve delivery performance while reducing logistics costs.
- Support development and execution of Master Production Scheduling activities.
- Collaborate with Operations leadership to ensure production plans align with customer demand and material availability.
- Identify supply chain risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Drive forecasting accuracy and inventory planning initiatives.
- Lead and develop supply chain, materials, planning, warehouse, and logistics personnel.
- Establish performance expectations and accountability measures.
- Support succession planning and employee development initiatives.
- Build a culture focused on execution, continuous improvement, and customer satisfaction.
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, Operations Management, or related field.
- 7+ years of progressive leadership experience within Supply Chain, Materials Management, Logistics, or Manufacturing Operations.
- Experience leading teams responsible for planning, inventory, warehousing, transportation, and operational execution.
- Strong understanding of MRP, ERP systems, inventory management, and manufacturing operations.
- Demonstrated success improving inventory performance, service levels, and operational efficiency.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Experience with in heavy manufacturing, industrial equipment, electrical equipment, engineered-to-order, or capital equipment environments.
- APICS CPIM, CSCP, CLTD, or equivalent certification.
- Experience supporting multi-site manufacturing operations.
The ideal candidate will not simply be a materials leader or a logistics leader. We are seeking a well-rounded supply chain executive who understands how procurement execution, materials planning, inventory management, warehousing, transportation, and production operations work together to support manufacturing excellence.
This individual must be capable of connecting the dots across the entire supply chain while driving measurable improvements in inventory, delivery performance, cost management, customer service, and operational execution.
