The Assistant Principal serves as a key member of the school leadership team and supports the Principal in providing effective instructional, programmatic, and operational leadership for the school. Working in close partnership with the Principal, the Assistant Principal helps ensure the consistent implementation of high‑quality educational and behavioral programming, effective staff performance, a safe and supportive school environment, and compliance with organizational, licensing, accreditation, and regulatory requirements.

The Assistant Principal provides visible, hands‑on leadership throughout the school and plays a significant role in the daily supervision, coaching, and accountability of staff; implementation of instructional and behavioral expectations; student support; school safety; and day‑to‑day operations. The Assistant Principal works collaboratively with organizational leadership and support teams, including program supervisors, coordinators, and other subject‑matter experts, to promote consistency, continuous improvement, and positive student outcomes.

In the absence of the Principal, the Assistant Principal assumes responsibility for the day‑to‑day leadership and operation of the school.

The Assistant Principal supervises assigned staff as designated by the Principal and may assume broader supervisory and operational responsibilities in the Principal's absence.

This role requires driving, therefore a "clean driving record" is critical.

Minimum Education , Training, Requirements And Prerequisites
  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in education, special education, educational leadership, administration, or related field, preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in education, special education, educational leadership, administration, or related field, required.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities and students with significant behavioral, emotional, and/or developmental needs, required.
  • Experience in a school‑based or special education setting, required.
  • Valid Virginia teaching license, preferred.
  • Experience in educational leadership, staff supervision, coaching, or program coordination, preferred.
  • Valid VA Driver’s License and proof of insurance.
  • Satisfactory Driving Record in accordance with Driver Requirements policy.
  • Must be able to participate in and maintain certification in crisis de‑escalation techniques, First Aid, and CPR as required.
  • Must be physically capable of implementing approved crisis intervention procedures when necessary.
  • Must serve as a mandated reporter.
  • Schedule:

    Monday – Friday, 8:00AM – 4:00PM.

  • Must not have any of the following violations within the last 5 years:
    • Reckless driving, including speeding 20mph or more over the posted speed limit.
    • Driving under the influence/impaired/intoxicated or refusing a blood/breath test.
    • Manslaughter or negligent homicide.
    • Driving after being declared a habitual offender.
    • Driving on a suspended or revoked license
    • Driving a commercial motor vehicle while disqualified, under the influence, with a blood alcohol level of .04 or higher, refusing a blood/breath test, or violating an out‑of‑service order.
