Job Summary

Under the direction of the Operations Team Lead and/or general supervision, the operator technician is responsible for the safe and efficient operations of the company’s equipment within prescribed specifications that satisfy customer requirements of quality, cost, and time, using the most economical means and complying with all legal requirements.

Job Duties
  • Comply with safety policies and practices, participate in the plant Safety Program, and report any incidents or near‑misses.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment for self, team members, and equipment through daily 5S, housekeeping activities, and vehicle safety checks.
  • Adhere to quality standards and procedures, supporting the positive release program and promoting quality within the operation.
  • Inspect manufactured product, follow quality protocol when defects are discovered, adjust machines to minimize defects, and record results in reports, rework summaries, waste logs, and the quality database.
  • Monitor, maintain, and adjust machines during continuous production to prevent machine stoppages and minimize waste.
  • Use and read measuring and quality inspection devices as required.
  • Complete charting and document production activities to meet or exceed quality standards.
  • Work with team members to recommend process improvements.
  • Support continuous improvement teams that drive out waste and reduce operation costs.
  • Understand and ensure compliance with policies and procedures such as the BRC Food Safety Policy, GMPs, HACCP Principles, ISO 14001, and OSHA rules while completing tasks.
  • Participate in developing SOPs and work instructions.
  • Operate or work around highly automated systems, including robotic equipment.
  • Operate multiple production machines simultaneously to safely produce quality product and ensure overall equipment effectiveness per standards.
  • Perform and document daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance tasks accurately.
  • Assist in trial runs, machinery installs, overhauls, or upgrades as needed.
  • Operate forklift as required.
  • Provide break relief as needed.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • 2+ years experience in high-volume manufacturing preferred.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent teamwork abilities, organizational skills, and problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Basic computer and math skills for reading and interpreting drawings, reviewing specifications, work instructions, and reporting line performance.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Ability to work all shifts, including 8 or 12‑hour shifts, daylight, off‑shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
  • Ability to adapt to changing initiatives.
  • Working knowledge of measuring devices.

While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to stand, walk, talk, hear, use hands and fingers to handle and feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

The team member may occasionally be required to work in non-permit required confined spaces, unless otherwise trained. The employee must frequently lift and or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close and distance vision as well as color recognition. Good hand/eye coordination is necessary.

Average hours per week: 36–48 alternating. Usual shift worked is 12 hours.

Work Environment

The noise level in the work environment is very loud. Team members must wear hearing protection and all other assigned personal protective equipment. Temperature can range from extreme cold (95 °F). The atmosphere contains fumes, dust, and odors.

Special Hazards
  • Mechanical and electrical hazards from machinery.
  • Exposure to pinch points, cuts, burns, metal dust, and slivers.
  • Daily work near chemicals that are hazardous and explosive.
