Cabler Operator – Weekend Shift
Basic Function
6:00 am – 6:00 pm Friday – Sunday
Sets up, runs, and monitors 36” up to 64” cabling equipment used for the manufacture of fiber optic cable.
Significant Responsibilities- Reads the set‑up sheet and utilizes the product code to determine the product to be manufactured, machine adjustments, and material requirements.
- Sets up, runs, and monitors the cabling lines for all standard products.
- Sets up and runs a respooling machine located in the cabling area to respool fillers.
- Observes, measures, and inspects products at various stages of the production process to ensure the product is being produced per proper set‑up sheet specifications.
- Correctly completes all documentation specific to this job function.
- Cleans equipment to prevent contamination as required.
- Recognizes various defects and problems that arise during production; assists in solving problems or notifies supervisor if required.
- Conducts all activities in accordance with safety procedures and guidelines.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); six months related experience and/or training preferred.
- Mechanical aptitude with the ability to operate a machine in a production environment.
- Demonstrated ability to use tools and measuring devices properly.
- Ability to read and follow basic instructions and to understand and implement quality procedures.
- Math and handwriting skills required; ability to correctly complete all documentation.
- Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision.
- Pays close attention to detail and can complete assignments accurately; recognizes and helps resolve problems.
- Ability to operate a forklift.
While performing this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk; significant inspecting activities require manual dexterity using hands to finger, handle or feel. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. This job requires sight for significant reading and computer use. Specific vision abilities required include color vision. The job also requires hearing sufficient for communication with co‑workers and alarm awareness.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with a disability to perform the essential functions.
