Position Summary

Virginia Transformer is seeking a highly experienced and results‑driven Director of Operations to lead manufacturing operations at our Roanoke, Virginia facility. This executive‑level leader will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of production, manufacturing performance, safety, quality, maintenance, materials management, and continuous improvement initiatives.

The Director of Operations will play a critical role in supporting the company's continued growth by driving operational excellence, increasing manufacturing capacity, improving productivity, and ensuring on‑time delivery of high‑quality products. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience leading large‑scale manufacturing operations involving complex engineered‑to‑order or capital equipment products and a proven track record of building high‑performing teams in fast‑growth environments.

Key Responsibilities Operational Leadership
  • Direct all plant operations including manufacturing, production, maintenance, materials management, logistics, planning, and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and execute operational strategies aligned with company growth and profitability objectives.
  • Ensure efficient utilization of labor, equipment, facilities, and resources.
  • Lead multiple department managers and manufacturing leaders to achieve operational targets.
  • Drive accountability through operational metrics and performance management systems.
Safety & Compliance
  • Foster a world‑class safety culture focused on employee engagement and accountability.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, environmental, and company safety standards.
  • Lead safety improvement initiatives and maintain regulatory compliance.
  • Champion a proactive approach to risk reduction and workplace safety.
Production Management
  • Drive production performance to achieve delivery, quality, and cost objectives.
  • Monitor key operational metrics and implement corrective actions when necessary.
  • Partner with planning and scheduling teams to optimize throughput and capacity utilization.
  • Ensure customer commitments are met through effective production execution.
  • Support operational scaling efforts to accommodate continued business growth.
  • Champion Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and operational excellence initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to improve productivity, reduce waste, and streamline processes.
  • Lead Kaizen events and continuous improvement projects across the facility.
  • Establish and maintain performance metrics to drive accountability and sustainable improvement.
Quality & Customer Satisfaction
  • Collaborate with quality leadership to maintain the highest standards of product quality.
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective action programs.
  • Ensure customer specifications and quality requirements are consistently achieved.
  • Drive a culture of quality throughout the organization.
  • Develop and manage operational budgets.
  • Monitor labor, material, and manufacturing costs to improve profitability.
