Are you a skilled machinist who enjoys precision work and problem-solving? Optical Cable Corporation (OCC) is looking for a Tooling Inspector – Machinist to support our manufacturing operations by maintaining, repairing, fabricating, and managing the tooling used to produce high-quality fiber optic cable.
In this role, you will work with CNC equipment, precision measuring instruments, and machine shop tools to ensure production tooling is available, accurate, and ready to support a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
What You Will Do- Maintain an accurate inventory of production tooling using identification and barcode tracking.
- Issue, receive, and deliver tooling to production while tracking tooling throughout the facility.
- Clean, inspect, and evaluate tooling to ensure it meets OCC quality standards.
- Identify worn or damaged tooling and coordinate repairs or replacements.
- Fabricate and repair tooling using lathes, mills, surface grinders, torches, and soldering equipment.
- Set up, program, and operate CNC equipment (PROTOTRAK experience preferred).
- Machine precision components from blueprints and technical drawings.
- Use calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, and other precision measuring equipment to verify specifications.
- Collaborate with production teams to ensure tooling needs are met while maintaining a safe, organized machine shop.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 1–3 years of machine shop experience preferred.
- Experience operating manual and CNC machine tools.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
- Proficiency using precision measuring instruments such as calipers and micrometers.
- Mechanical aptitude with strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Basic Microsoft Excel and Word skills.
- PROTOTRAK conversational programming experience is preferred.
- Experience with CAD software, such as Autodesk Inventor, is a plus.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Regularly lift and move up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work safely in a manufacturing machine shop environment with occasional exposure to smoke, fumes, and chemicals.

Compensation: $18.45 – $33.12

Additional Compensation Information: The posted pay range reflects the established base salary or hourly wage range for this position. Individual compensation is determined based on qualifications, experience, skills, internal equity, and business needs. New hires are typically hired below the midpoint of the range. Eligible positions may receive applicable shift differentials, skill premiums, or other forms of additional compensation.
