Basic Function

The Tooling Inspector
- Machinist is primarily responsible for cleaning, dispensing, inspecting and tracking tooling used for production of fiber optic cable. The Tooling Inspector
- Machinist also repairs and fabricates tooling utilizing torches, soldering, various hand tools, precision measuring devices, CNC equipment and surface grinding.

Significant Responsibilities

I. Performs specific job responsibilities:

  • Maintain complete inventory of tooling accurately; provide adequate identification and barcode labeling
  • Check tooling in and out of inventory; assist in delivering tooling to production team members; track whereabouts of tooling; retrieve tooling from production floor for cleaning and inspection
  • Clean and inspect tolling based on priorities set by production schedules
  • Determine tooling's compliance to all applicable OCC requirements
  • Identify damaged and worn tooling and write work orders for new tooling or repair
  • Cut and silver solder hypodermic guide tubing in extrusion tooling
  • Correctly setup, program and operate CNC equipment (lathes, mills) and its related tooling
  • Safely utilize surface grinder for mating tooling components

Job Scope
  • Responsible for providing tooling to meet the needs of production team members in a high volume production environment
  • Communicates regularly with production team members, leads and supervisors to ensure tooling needs are met
  • Low level attention to confidentiality outside of that outlined in the employment agreement
  • Responsible for tracking whereabouts of tooling (company property)
  • Internal compliance for tooling;
    General accountability
  • Functions in the safest possible manner for a general machine shop environment
  • Correctly fabricate extrusion tooling and machine components from blueprints or sketches using lathes and mills
Minimum Qualifications Required

Education: High School diploma or GED

Experience: 1 to 3 years in a machine shop environment; PROTOTRAK conversational programming experience preferred; knowledge of a CAD drawing system (such as Autodesk Inventor is a plus)

Other

Minimum Qualifications:

Ability to read and comprehend basic blueprints; demonstrates ability to use and understand calipers, micrometers and other precision measuring equipment; able to machine components using a tool room lathe and mill; qualified to employ various hand tools; basic ability to use Excel and Word.

Essential Skills, Abilities & Knowledge

Must have mechanical aptitude with ability to use tools and precision measuring devices (micrometers, calipers, dial indicators) properly; ability to read and follow basic instructions and quality procedures; attention to detail; operate in a high volume, team environment; work independently and with minimal supervision to complete major job functions.

Working Conditions

Able to regularly lift/move up to 50 pounds. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with a disability to perform the essential functions. Ability to stand for extended periods of time. May be exposed to moderate fumes from smoke or chemicals.

Additional Compensation Information

The posted pay range reflects the established base salary or hourly wage range for this position. Individual compensation is determined based on qualifications, experience, skills, internal equity, and business needs. New hires are typically hired below the midpoint of the range. Eligible positions may receive applicable shift differentials, skill premiums, or other forms of additional compensation.

The regular schedule for this position is 6:00 a.m.

- 6:00 p.m. Friday
- Sunday with some schedule flexibility required; overtime is also available. 33 hours/week with FT Benefits
