Position Summary

The Supply Chain Materials Manager is responsible for ensuring the timely and effective procurement, acquisition, receipt, storage, and availability of materials, goods, and services required to support Virginia Transformer’s products and operations.

This position is responsible for the overall management of the purchasing, materials planning, warehouse, and inventory control functions in alignment with the company’s business plans, operational requirements, and budgetary parameters.

The Supply Chain Materials Manager will lead the plant’s materials organization and ensure that purchasing, inventory, warehouse, scheduling, and material-flow processes support production schedules and customer delivery commitments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure materials are procured according to production requirements, company policies, approved procedures, and budgetary guidelines.
  • Schedule and direct the daily activities of the Purchasing and Inventory Control departments.
  • Ensure the timely and effective procurement, delivery, receipt, storage, and availability of materials.
  • Develop and maintain procurement standards that support cost containment and other company goals.
  • Maintain accurate records of vendor performance, pricing, and cost history.
  • Track key internal and external cost indicators to identify material-cost changes and market trends.
  • Advise management regarding material-cost changes and supply conditions that may affect the business.
  • Maintain material costs and inventory levels in accordance with the Virginia Transformer business plan and management directives.
Production Planning and Scheduling
  • Establish and maintain the master production schedule and other manufacturing-planning functions.
  • Coordinate material availability with production schedules and customer delivery requirements.
  • Ensure processes involving hot lists, EPPM, shortage reports, kitting, and related material-planning activities are followed according to standard operating procedures.
  • Identify material shortages, delivery risks, and production constraints before they affect operations.
  • Keep management informed of issues that could affect production, cost, quality, or customer delivery.
Warehouse and Inventory Control
  • Ensure warehouse processes are controlled and supported by accurate material accounting.
  • Establish and maintain a perpetual inventory system for all production materials, supplies, and expendable items.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records, transactions, locations, and balances.
  • Ensure plant metrics related to inventory levels, inbound freight, material delays, shortages, and inventory accuracy are achieved.
  • Review bill-of-material releases against slow-moving, obsolete, or accumulated inventory for potential use on current or future production orders.
