This is a mission-critical role – our customer's orthotics are custom made, prescription grade, & specifically tailored to the patient needs. Here's the scoop on a "day in the life" as a Medical Device Assembler:

You're a key, team player assembling high-quality, one-of-kind orthotics. This is a multi-step process and each team member plays a key-role in producing a stellar final product. You would utilize technology and light manufacturing equipment (never exceeding 10 lbs) to ensure orders are made to the specifications of the prescription, in the needed turn around time. You would contribute to the greater mission of the lab team – your work product, your diligence, and your attention to detail ensures we're maintaining a safe and high-functioning work environment.

The lab environment is climate controlled.

We are needing self-motivated team players that are focused & committed to quality. Having an eye for details & taking pride in your work is a must! The position would require the ability to work on your feet (we provide two custom pairs of orthotics) & the ability to thrive in a team environment.

Position Summary

Responsible for performing orthotic production tasks within Level 2, including preparation, assembly, shaping, and finishing of orthotic devices. Ensures all work is completed according to specified instructions, production standards, and quality requirements while supporting a continuous flow manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Pull orders from conveyor based on priority (date, or supervisor direction)
  • Review travel documents and read all instructions prior to processing.
  • Verify size, quantity, and accuracy of all components before beginning work.
  • Identify and adjust features such as heel maxx, 1st and 5th rays, and other structural elements.
  • Lower or raise arches according to order specifications.
  • Attach remaining accommodations and components per specifications.
  • Trim excess material from orthotic components.
  • Perform grinding adjustments to achieve proper fit and finish.
  • Scan orders in and out using FMX Order Tracking system.
  • Place orders with documentation In tote and transfer to the next production stage.
  • Maintain the 6S workplace organization standards within the assigned area on a daily basis.
  • Ensure all work performed meets company standards for quality.
  • Support and operate in a lean manufacturing one piece flow environment.
  • Perform additional laboratory duties as assigned by the Footmaxx Lab Manager

Key Competencies & Required Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to stand for up to 8 or more hours per day while performing the functions of the job
  • Ability to read and interpret work orders, specifications, and special instructions
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to use hand tools and grinding equipment
  • Hand-eye coordination
  • Regard for safety.
  • Ability to work well in a team-oriented, production-focused environment.
  • Ability to learn and retain new information.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to follow processes and escalate issues appropriately.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt in an evolving environment.

Work Location & Schedule

  • Primary location:
    Roanoke, Va.
  • Regular hours:
    Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Flexibility to adjust schedule as needed to support business operations.
Qualifications

Communication Requirements

  • Ability to clearly communicate operational issues to team members and supervisors.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and team collaboration
  • Ability to document basic production or downtime information.
  • Regular interaction with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams

Physical Demands

  • Frequent standing, walking, and movement throughout the production area
  • Regular bending, reaching above shoulder height, and handling of materials, tools and controls.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. as needed.
  • Hands-on interaction with machinery and equipment
  • Ability to safely operate machinery and tools
