CNC Machinist, Machine Operator

Are you an experienced CNC machinist who can do more than load parts and run an existing program?
We are recruiting for an Advanced CNC Machinist to join a well-established manufacturing operation in the Greater Roanoke, VA area. This opportunity is designed for a true machining professional with experience in multi-axis CNC equipment, programming, complex setups, troubleshooting, and precision manufacturing
.
You’ll have the opportunity to take ownership of the machining process—from interpreting the print and determining tooling and setup requirements to programming, producing, troubleshooting, and inspecting the finished component.
What You’ll Be Doing- Set up, program, operate, and troubleshoot multi-axis CNC machines
- Create, edit, and optimize CNC programs
- Perform complex setups, changeovers, offsets, and tooling adjustments
- Determine appropriate tooling, work holding, speeds, feeds, and machining strategies
- Read and interpret complex blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T
- Machine precision components to required dimensions and tolerances
- Perform first-piece and in-process inspections using precision measurement equipment
- Diagnose and correct programming, tooling, setup, dimensional, and surface-finish issues
- Optimize machining processes to improve cycle time, tool life, quality, and productivity
- Troubleshoot out-of-tolerance conditions and make necessary program or machine adjustments
- Support continuous improvement and machining process-development initiatives
- Provide technical guidance to less-experienced machinists and operators when needed
- 3+ years of CNC machining experience in a manufacturing environment
- Strong experience with multi-axis CNC machining
- CNC programming and program-editing experience
- Ability to independently complete setups from blueprint through first-piece approval
- Strong understanding of cutting tools, work holding, offsets, speeds, feeds, and machining fundamentals
- Ability to read complex blueprints and understand GD&T and tight tolerances
- Experience using micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other precision inspection equipment
- Strong mechanical aptitude and machining troubleshooting skills
- Experience with CNC mills, lathes, or other advanced machining equipment
- Technical machining education, apprenticeship training, or industry certifications are a plus

You should be comfortable looking at a print, understanding how the part needs to be produced, determining the appropriate setup and tooling, programming or modifying the machine, troubleshooting issues, and verifying that the finished component meets specification.
