LPN Inpatient - Vascular ICU, CST

Responsibilities

• Practice practical nursing within the parameters set forth in Carilion Clinic’s Plans for the Provision of Patient Care, under the direction of a registered nurse or physician.
• Partner with the RN in collecting data, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care.
• Participate in the nursing process for patients of all ages served.
• Communicate frequently with team members, ancillary departments and physicians.
• Contribute to development of the patient database and interdisciplinary plan of care.
• Identify patient, resident, family or caregiver educational needs; incorporate education into the plan of care and document it.
• Apply knowledge of growth and development to appropriately care for patients/residents.
• Implement prescribed therapeutic treatment plans and procedures.
• Administer prescribed medication to patients/residents.
• Advocate for patients, protect patient rights and provide psychological, social and cultural support.
• Contribute to Carilion’s performance improvement activities and support service area/facility/organization initiatives.
• Contribute to the orientation and career development of others and may assign tasks as needed.

• Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing.
• No required experience.
• Licensed to practice practical nursing in the state of Virginia.
• Completed de‑escalation training within four months of hire and maintain it going forward.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development, ability to collect data reflective of the patient’s status, interpret appropriate information, and provide care as described in departmental policies and procedures.
