LPN Inpatient - Surgical Step Down (Open)

• Practice practical nursing within the parameters set forth in Carilion Clinics Plans for the Provision of Patient Care under the direction of a registered nurse or physician.
• Partner with the RN in collecting data, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient/resident care.
• Participate in the nursing process for patients of all ages served.
• Communicate frequently with team members, ancillary departments, and physicians.
• Contribute to the development of the patient/resident database and interdisciplinary plan of care.
• Identify patient/resident/family/caregiver educational needs, incorporate education into the plan of care, and document.
• Apply knowledge of growth and development to appropriately care for patients/residents.
• Implement prescribed therapeutic treatment plans and procedures.
• Administer prescribed medication to patients/residents.
• Advocate for patients, protect patient rights, and provide psychological, social, and cultural support.
• Contribute to Carilion's performance improvement activities and support service area/facility/organization initiatives.
• Assist in the orientation and career development of others.
• Assign tasks to staff as needed.

• Education:
  
  Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing.
• Experience:
  
  None.
• Licensure, certification, and/or registration:
  Licensed to practice practical nursing in the state of Virginia.
• In Psychiatry and Behavioral Health:
  Must complete de‑escalation training within four months of hire and maintain it thereafter.

  Demonstrates knowledge of principles of growth and development, ability to collect and interpret patient data, and provide care in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
