LPN Inpatient - Inpatient Surgical Care

Job Summary

Full‑time LPN Inpatient – Inpatient Surgical Care at 1906 Belleview Ave SE, Roanoke. This 20‑bed telemetry PCU specializes in the care and management of all general and bariatric surgery patients, serving as the primary unit for Enhanced Recovery (ERAS) patients and an alternate for neuro/trauma, hospitalist/medicine, urology, and other surgery patients.

Practice practical nursing within the parameters set in Carilion Clinics Plans for the Provision of Patient Care and work under the direction of a RN or physician.

Partner with the RN in collecting data, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient/resident care.

Participate in the nursing process for patients of all ages served.

Communicate frequently with team members, ancillary departments, and physicians.

Contribute to the development of the patient/resident database and interdisciplinary plan of care.

Identify patient/resident/family/caregiver educational needs, incorporate education into the plan of care, and document.

Apply knowledge of growth and development to appropriately care for patients/residents.

Implement prescribed therapeutic treatment plans and procedures.

Administer prescribed medication to patients/residents.

Advocate for patients, protect patient’s rights, and provide psychological/social/cultural support.

Contribute to Carilion’s performance improvement activities and support service area/facility/organization initiatives.

Contribute to orientation and career development of others and assign tasks as needed.

• Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing.
• Licensed to practice practical nursing in the State of Virginia.
• Completion of de‑escalation training in psychiatry and behavioral health within four months of hire and ongoing maintenance.
• Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of growth and development.
• Ability to collect data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret information to identify each patient’s requirements relative to age and specific needs.
• Experience and licensure/certification requirements may vary by department.
