Position: LPN Outpatient - Trauma Surgery (Open)

• Provides practical nursing support for patients in a physician practice or clinic setting as directed by the provider.
• Completes patient assessments including height, weight, vital signs, chief complaint, current medications, and other pertinent data.
• Prepares patients for provider evaluation: obtaining specimens, positioning for exams, listing medications, assisting during exams and diagnostic/therapeutic procedures.
• Coordinates tele-retinal and tele-dermatology clinic setup.
• Administers medications and injections as directed.
• Maintains work areas, exam, treatment, x-ray rooms and lab in a clean, safe manner; restocks supplies; sanitizes reusable equipment.
• Documents and maintains patient information in the electronic medical record in a timely manner, including treatment procedures, medication refills, test results, patient concerns.
• Contributes to performance improvement activities.
• Provides patient teaching as directed, including lab results, diet instructions, medication instructions, appropriate follow-up, and reinforcement of provider instructions.
• Assists with referral authorizations for specialists and pre-authorizations for testing and ancillary services.
• Assists with laboratory procedures: collecting urine specimens, collecting and preparing blood samples for reference lab, labeling specimens with accurate patient .
• Observes all safety precautions and standards; ensures proper disposal of specimens and contaminated waste.
• If applicable, performs lab procedures directed by the provider: phlebotomy, peripheral sticks, collection/preparation of specimens, throat smears, and routine laboratory testing. Runs daily quality control tests and maintains quality assurance plans.
• If applicable, performs x-ray procedures directed by the provider, taking measures to prevent excessive exposure to patient and self, completing all documentation and labeling of x-rays.
• Performs any other tasks related to practice operation that may be assigned or requested for which training has been provided.

• Education:
  
  Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing (required) or new graduate of an approved program eligible for the Virginia licensure exam.
• Experience:
  
  One (1) year experience in a physician office preferred.
• Licensure/Certification:
  Current licensure as a Practical Nurse in the State of Virginia (LPN) required. Licensure as a Radiologic Technician Limited if performing radiology. Current AHA BLS-HCP certification required.
• Other:
  Customer‑driven, positive demeanor, good verbal and written communication skills, professional appearance and approach. Ability to problem‑solve and communicate effectively with a variety of people. Skills to utilize electronic medical records and automated computer systems; keyboarding skills required.
