Description:
Position in Open Heart/Thoracic PCU. Experience in post-heart surgery care is required. Shifts consist of 3 shifts per week, from 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM. Weekend work may be required, potentially every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week scheduling block. All scheduling requests must be included in the submission. The facility retains the right to call off one shift per two weeks.
One holiday must be worked during a 13-week contract period. First-time travelers are accepted, depending on experience, with a preference given to those from larger hospitals. Local candidates are accepted within specific radius criteria. Pending licenses are accepted only if the candidate holds a single-state license from a non-compact state. The primary focus of this unit is on the care of patients recovering from open heart and thoracic surgeries.
The patient-to-nurse ratio typically aims for 4:1, but may occasionally be 5:1. Telemetry and remote monitoring are utilized in this unit. Floating to other units may be required based on skill set. Daily census and number of visits per day will vary, with a total of 25 patient beds available. Clinical skills necessary include administration and management of cardiac drips, IV therapy, phlebotomy, and respiratory support.
Interdisciplinary support includes various teams such as IV Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Rapid Response Teams. This is a high-acuity unit focused on patients requiring continuous monitoring and specialized care.
