8 Mountain PCU is a 20‑bed progressive care unit caring primarily for medical patients, with a frequent—but not exclusive—focus on pulmonary and respiratory conditions. Nurses provide high‑acuity care through advanced monitoring, sound clinical judgment, and close collaboration with the care team. Within a Magnet‑designated environment, 8 Mountain PCU emphasizes quality‑driven practice, staff development, and patient‑centered care. As a registered nurse, you are expected to consistently deliver the best in care and customer service and demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness, and empathy in each encounter with our patients, their families, visitors, and with each other. As part of the health care team, RNs assume primary accountability for nursing coordination and provision of individualized care for patients of all ages.
The registered nurse also utilizes delegation and critical thinking skills to provide quality service through a team‑oriented, collaborative approach to patient care.
Responsibilities include:
assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care to achieve optimum patient outcomes; completing age‑specific admission and ongoing assessments, developing and revising interdisciplinary plans of care; accurately administering treatments and medications; identifying and addressing patient/family educational needs; contributing to performance improvement activities; advocating for patient rights; applying knowledge of growth and development; performing clinical, leadership, and educational pathways; planning strategies to reduce length of stay and improve patient outcomes;
managing resources and priorities; completing manager/director projects; facilitating resolution to patient and personnel situations; and providing orientation and feedback to new employees.
- Graduate of a school of professional nursing of an accredited college or graduate of an approved program eligible to sit for the VA licensure exam.
- Currently licensed as Registered Nurse in Virginia or eligible to obtain Virginia RN licensure.
- AHA BLS‑HCP required. May be required to obtain/maintain BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP based on specific work unit.
- Proficient with electronic medical record (EPIC).
