RN – Medical Progressive Care Unit (Open). 24‑bed telemetry PCU specializing in Hospitalist Medicine patients with renal and various other medical diagnoses. Provides alternate unit care for GI, Pulmonary, and other surgical/procedural patients covered by Hospitalists, with capacity for up to two chronically ventilated patients.
Responsibilities- Consistently provide high‑quality care and customer service, demonstrating respect, dignity, kindness and empathy.
- Assume primary accountability for nursing coordination and provision of individualized care for patients of all ages.
- Apply delegation and critical thinking skills in a team‑oriented, collaborative approach to patient care.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care to achieve optimum outcomes.
- Complete age‑specific admission and ongoing assessments, documenting and using them to develop care plans.
- Collaborate with the health care team, patients, and families to develop, implement, and evaluate age‑specific interdisciplinary plans of care, revising them as patient status changes.
- Accurately administer and document treatments and medications through automated electronic medical record systems.
- Identify and meet patient/family educational needs, incorporating them into the plan of care.
- Contribute to performance improvement activities and advocate for patient rights and support.
- Apply knowledge of growth and development appropriate to patient populations.
- Engage in clinical, leadership and/or education pathways to support evidence‑based patient care and quality improvement.
- Demonstrate clinical expertise in rapidly changing circumstances and plan strategies to reduce length of stay, turnaround time, and resource consumption.
- Serve as a role model for clinical practice to coworkers, students and physicians.
- Manage resources, set priorities, and modify the environment to meet patient care needs.
- Complete manager‑directed projects within specified time frames and guidelines.
- Use problem‑solving methods to resolve patient and personnel situations.
- Participate in orientation of new employees and provide constructive feedback.
- Contribute to practice, environmental and work issues through unit, hospital, and system activities.
- Assist with education activities for the unit or department.
- Graduate of a school of professional nursing from an accredited college or a program eligible for the VA licensure exam.
- Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in Virginia or eligible to obtain Virginia RN licensure.
- Valid AHA BLS‑HCP; may be required to obtain or maintain BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP based on specific unit needs.
- Computer skills required for electronic medical record (EPIC).
Hourly range: $33.52 – $50.28. Compensation is based on qualifications, credentials, education, and prior experience. The range does not include benefits or pension plan.
