LPN Outpatient - Vascular Surgery - FLEX

Responsibilities

• Provide practical nursing support in the delivery of quality care for patients of all ages in a physician practice or clinic setting as directed by the physician or mid-level practitioner.
• Complete patient assessments—including height, weight, vital signs, chief complaint, current medications, etc.
• Prepare patients for provider evaluation, obtain specimens, position for exams, list medications, and assist during examinations and diagnostic/therapeutic procedures.
• Coordinate tele-retinal and tele-dermatology clinic set-up.
• Administer medications and injections as directed by the provider.
• Maintain and clean work areas, exam, treatment, x-ray rooms, and lab; restock supplies; sterilize reusable equipment.
• Document and maintain patient information in the electronic medical record in a timely manner, updating treatment procedures, medication refills, test results, patient concerns, etc.
• Contribute to Carilion Clinic’s performance-improvement activities.
• Provide patient teaching as indicated and directed by the provider—including lab results, diet instructions, medication instructions, appropriate follow-up, and reinforcing provider instructions.
• Assist with referral authorizations for specialists and pre-authorizations for testing and ancillary services.
• Assist with lab procedures—collect urine specimens, collect and prepare blood samples for reference lab, label specimens accurately, and observe all safety precautions and standards. Ensure proper disposal of contaminated waste.
• If applicable, perform phlebotomy, peripheral sticks, throat smears, and other laboratory tests on site after appropriate training; prepare and conduct quality-control testing.
• If applicable, perform x-ray procedures, take measures to prevent excessive exposure, complete all documentation and labeling of x-rays.
• Perform any other tasks relating to the operation of the practice that may be assigned or requested for which training has been provided.

• Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing required, or new graduate of an approved program eligible to sit for the Virginia licensure exam.
• One (1) year experience in a physician office preferred.
• Current licensure as a Practical Nurse in the State of Virginia (LPN) required.
• Licensure as a Radiologic Technician Limited if performing radiology.
• Current AHA BLS-HCP certification required.
• Customer-driven mindset with a positive demeanor, good verbal and written communication skills, and a professional appearance and approach.
• Ability to problem-solve and communicate effectively with a wide variety of people.
• Skills to utilize automated computer systems, including electronic medical records.
• Keyboarding skills required for automated computer systems, including electronic medical records.

Hourly rate: $21.61 - $30.25, based on qualifications, credentials, education, and prior work experience.
