As a registered nurse (RN), you are expected to consistently deliver the best in care and customer service, demonstrating respect, dignity, kindness and empathy in every encounter with patients, their families, visitors, and colleagues. As part of the healthcare team, RNs assume primary accountability for nursing coordination and provision of individualized care for patients of all ages. The RN assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care to achieve optimum outcomes.

Age‑specific admissions and ongoing assessments are documented and used to develop a plan of care, which is revised as patient status changes. Treatments and medications are accurately administered and recorded in the electronic medical record. Patients and families receive timely education, which is incorporated into the care plan and documented. You will also support Carilion Clinic’s performance improvement activities, serve as a patient advocate and provider of psychological/social/cultural support, and demonstrate clinical expertise in rapidly changing circumstances.

Your role will involve planning strategies to reduce length of stay, turnaround time, and resource consumption while improving patient outcomes. As a role model, you will manage resources, establish priorities, modify the environment to meet patient needs, and complete projects within time frames and guidelines. You will use problem‑solving methods, orient new employees, provide feedback to staff, and participate in unit, hospital, and system activities to enhance decision making and education.

• Education:
  
  Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing or an approved nursing program eligible to sit for the Virginia RN licensure examination.
• Licensure/Certification:
  Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in Virginia or eligible to obtain Virginia RN licensure.
• Life Support: AHA BLS‑HCP required. May be required to obtain/maintain BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP based on specific work unit.

• Proficiency in electronic medical records (EPIC).

• Computer skills required for electronic medical record (EPIC).
• Incumbents may be asked to perform other job‑related duties as needed.
