Patient Care Technician – 5 West Unit – Full Time (Day/Evening shift, United States)
As part of the patient care team at 1906 Belleview Ave SE, Roanoke, you will provide nursing care and support for patients on a 26‑bed medical surgical unit specializing in complex IV drug‑related infections. The role requires participation in a multidisciplinary team and may involve suicide and safety precautions.
Responsibilities- Perform basic nursing care including monitoring vital signs, assisting with bathing, meals, toileting, ambulation, and other activities of daily living.
- Assist with advanced technical skills such as phlebotomy, non‑sterile wound dressings, saline lock removal, and colostomy bag changes, as appropriate.
- Document and report patient observations to licensed staff; conduct chart audits and use EMR efficiently.
- Transport patients, supplies, specimens, and equipment within the facility; operate general office equipment and maintain supplies.
- Contribute to unit quality surveillance, teamwork, and shared governance; may lead unit huddles or participate in interdepartmental rounds.
- Maintain a safe, clean environment, including performing safety and environmental rounds, and participating in the sitter or safety‑precaution processes.
- Support patient flow and admission, transfer, and discharge processes; coordinate with departmental software and intranet.
- Serve as the unit’s “face,” greeting patients and visitors, providing customer service, answering calls, and inter‑acting with physicians and other health professionals.
- Assist with regulatory compliance, code cart checks, and facility maintenance as needed.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous direct patient care experience preferred.
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred; required for critical access facilities.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support – Health Care Provider required within 6 months of hire.
- Effective communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to complete orientation and competency validation.
Salary range: $17.39–$24.35 per hour (based on qualifications and experience). Sign‑on bonus may be available.
