• Provide 24‑hour leadership for nursing unit operations, patient care delivery, and staff support.
• Create safe, healthy environments supporting the clinical team and patient/employee engagement.
• Mentor and support Assistant Nurse Managers and unit staff; initiate developmental and performance‑based conversations.
• Cultivate interprofessional relationships and maintain high visibility on the unit.
• Develop unit goals, action plans, and outcome monitoring aligned with nursing and organizational strategic plans.
• Engage direct reports in meeting strategic unit goals, including quality, patient experience, employee engagement, staff retention, and throughput.
• Plan budgets and manage expenses, aligning with cost‑saving initiatives such as staffing mix and supply management.
• Monitor patient experience and implement programs to improve it in collaboration with senior service line management.
• Facilitate professional growth, education, performance appraisal processes, developmental conversations, and succession planning.
• Implement and monitor department budgets, expense management, and cost‑containment initiatives.
• Support facility mission, goals, values, and scorecard objectives.
• Create a safe, comfortable, therapeutic environment for patients and families in accordance with standards and patient rights.
• Monitor quality, appropriateness, and safety of care and implement solutions for quality and patient‑safety opportunities.
• Organize employee recognition activities and develop retention strategies to promote a positive work environment.
• Coordinate day‑to‑day departmental operations; manage resources; coordinate adequate staffing.
• Demonstrate effective team‑building and leadership skills; establish priorities, direct staff assignments, and facilitate problem‑solving.
• Collaborate with other department leaders to implement new services and performance‑improvement initiatives.
• May provide direct patient care or assist employees in overall patient care activities.

• Graduate of professional nursing school; BSN required for CMC positions (Magnet designation). For outlying community hospitals, BSN preferred or an ADN with a related master’s degree.
• Minimum 3years of leadership experience in a healthcare setting.
• Current RN license in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
• In Psychiatry/Behavioral Health, de‑escalation training completed within four months of hire and maintained thereafter; ability to appropriately handle or restrain disruptive or physically violent patients.
• AHA BLS‑HCP required.
• Demonstrates excellent problem‑solving, interpersonal communication, team leadership, priority‑setting, and work‑competency skills.
• Promotes a respectful, inclusive culture of service excellence.

Compensation Range: $98,155.20 – $.
