Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU (Pulmonary/GI) position at a Level I Trauma Center and Magnet-designated hospital, requiring Epic proficiency and a minimum of one year of PCU/stepdown experience.

Details
  • Progressive Care Unit (PCU) focused on Pulmonary and GI patient populations
  • Adult and geriatric patient population with a daily unit census of 27
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5
  • Hospitalist PCU setting — no ventilated patients on this unit
  • May work without CNA support
  • Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
  • Every other weekend (EOW) or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block required
  • Floating required within skillset
  • Epic EMR experience required
Requirements
  • Active Virginia state RN license or Compact RN license currently in hand; pending license accepted only for candidates holding a single-state license from a non-compact state
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • Prior experience in a PCU, DOU, IMC, or stepdown setting required
  • Proficiency in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and emergency response
  • Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
  • Familiarity with common PCU IV medications including Cardizem (no titration), Amiodarone, Heparin (protocol), and Insulin (protocol)
  • Respiratory support experience: nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management
  • Experience using rapid response/code teams and implementing isolation precautions
  • Two professional references required for consideration
  • Copy of driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration

  • Work at a 703-bed acute care academic teaching hospital and the region's only Level I Trauma Center
  • Facility holds Magnet designation for nursing excellence and is affiliated with a medical school
  • Hospital is certified as an Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center
  • Must work one holiday during the 13-week contract
  • Local candidates are accepted for this position
