American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU (Progressive Care Unit) position at a Magnet-designated Level I Trauma Center, requiring Epic proficiency and telemetry experience.
Details- General Medicine/Observation PCU unit at a 703-bed Magnet-designated hospital and Level I Trauma Center affiliated with a medical school
- Night shift schedule: 3x12s, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend (EOW) or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block
- Patient ratio of 1:4–5 (goal 4:1, often 5:1)
- Telemetry is monitored remotely; monitors remain on the unit with tele-sitting support providing additional Patient Care Tech coverage
- Floating within skillset required
- Epic EMR experience required
- 13-week contract
- Active VA state RN license or Compact RN license currently in hand; pending license accepted only for candidates holding a single-state license from a non-compact state
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Prior experience in Tele, PCU, DOU, IMC, or stepdown settings required
- Proficiency in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, Rapid Response and Code team activation, and administration of cardiac drips (Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, low-dose Dopamine/Dobutamine, Amiodarone, Nitro, Bumex, Lasix) without titration
- Competency in IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
- Skills in chest tube management, trach care, and PICC line management
- Respiratory management experience including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, CPAP, BiPAP, and non-invasive airway management
- Two professional references required for consideration
- Valid driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration
- Provide progressive care nursing to a general medicine and observation patient population
- Must work one holiday during the 13-week contract
- All RTO, block scheduling, and special scheduling requests must be submitted at the time of application
