Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Stroke/Neuro PCU position requiring active VA or Compact RN license and prior Neuro PCU experience.

Details
  • Work in a telemetry PCU specializing in hospitalist medicine, stroke, and neurology patients within a Joint Commission-certified primary stroke center
  • Typical patient ratio of 1:5 with a staffing goal of 1:4
  • Manage cardiac drips including Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, low-dose dopamine/dobutamine, Amiodarone, Nitro, Bumex, Lasix, Lidocaine, and Ketamine (no titration)
  • Utilize remote telemetry monitoring with tele-sitting support from Patient Care Techs
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Night shift schedule of 3x12s (6:45p-7:15a), with 4x12 available by request
  • Weekend requirement of every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week scheduling block
  • Must work one holiday per 13-week contract
  • Floating required within skillset across PCU, IMC, and stepdown units
Requirements
  • Active Virginia State or Compact RN license required at time of submission
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Prior Neuro PCU experience required
  • Minimum 1 year of charge nurse experience preferred, ideally at a 250+ bed or larger facility
  • Skilled in cardiac monitoring, emergency response, and dysrhythmia interpretation/management
  • Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
  • Experience with respiratory support including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management
  • Knowledge of isolation precautions and PPE protocols
  • Epic EMR experience required
Additional Information
  • Provide direct care to hospitalist medicine, stroke, and neurology patients on a telemetry PCU
  • Utilize rapid response and code teams as needed for emergency situations
  • Work within a large, Level I Trauma Center that is Magnet-designated and affiliated with a teaching hospital
  • Facility allows one call-off shift per 2-week period
  • First-time travelers will be considered, though travel experience is preferred
  • Local candidates may be accepted; radius requirements apply and impact bill rate or extension eligibility
  • Previous employees must have a minimum one-year break before returning as a traveler
  • All RTO requests must be submitted upfront with candidate consideration
