American Traveler is hiring an RN for a PCU/MS Float role requiring VA or compact RN licensure and 2+ years of PCU/telemetry stepdown experience.

• Float position covering PCU and MS units within an acute care teaching hospital
• 703-bed flagship facility, Level I Trauma Center (Adult & Pediatrics), Magnet-designated
• PCU average ratio is 5:1; MS average ratio is 6:1, may flex up to 7:1
• Day shift schedule: 3x12 hours, 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM
• Epic EMR experience required
• Floating required across all PCU and MS units, with staffing needs reassessed every 4 hours (up to 2-3 floats per shift)
• Weekend requirement is either every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week block
• Must work one holiday per 13-week contract

• Active VA State or Compact RN license required (pending license accepted only for candidates holding a single-state license from a non-compact state)
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• CPI, NIHSS, and Trauma certifications preferred
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Experience with 1:5 patient ratio required
• Level I Trauma experience preferred
• Epic charting experience required
• Experienced in IV therapy, phlebotomy, and blood product administration
• Skilled in central line care, tracheostomy management, and non-invasive airway support (nasal cannula, CPAP/BiPAP, chest tubes)
• Proficient in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation/management, and titrating cardiac drips
• Experience managing PCA and heparin protocols, and administering IV insulin
• Background in telemetry and stepdown-level care (PCU/DOU/IMC) required
• Cardiovascular experience in pre/post cardiac cath settings required
• Stable ventilator patient care experience preferred
• Experience with PICC line management and peripheral line care preferred
• Experience with continuous bladder irrigation (CBI) and feeding tube management preferred

• Provide care to PCU and MS patient populations, including cardiac, respiratory, and stepdown-level cases
• Respond to emergencies using Rapid Response/Code teams as needed
• Facility may call off up to 1 shift per 2-week period
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local candidates are accepted
• Candidates residing within 100 miles of the facility (per driver's license address) are considered local; exceptions apply for inpatient RNs living 50-99.9 miles away, who may be eligible for one 13-week assignment with no extension, and those living under 50 miles away, who may be eligible for one 13-week assignment at a lower bill rate with no extension
• Previous employees (per diem or permanent) must have a minimum one-year gap before returning as a traveler
• Travelers who have worked 365 days on assignment are not eligible to return, regardless of separation period, with exceptions reviewed case-by-case by facility leadership
