Job TitleRegistered Nurse – Surgical PCU / Stepdown (Vent Experience Required)
LocationRoanoke, VA
Schedule / Job TypeContract | Night Shift | 4x12 Hours | 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM | Weekend rotation required (every other weekend or 6 shifts per 6-week block) | One holiday required per 13-week contract
Key Responsibilities- Provide direct patient care in a surgical progressive care/stepdown unit that functions as a step-down from the General Surgical ICU, including bariatric specialty and backup support to the trauma unit
- Monitor and manage cardiac telemetry remotely, interpret dysrhythmias, and respond to Rapid Response and Code team activations
- Administer IV therapy, blood products, and cardiac drips (including Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, Amiodarone, Nitro, and others) without titration responsibility
- Provide ventilator and respiratory support for chronic trach patients, including management of CPAP and BiPAP; maintain trach, chest tubes, surgical drains, PICC lines, and related equipment
- Perform phlebotomy, central and peripheral line care, and maintain isolation precautions in a telemetry-monitored environment
- Float within skillset to other units as needed
- Active Virginia State RN license or active Compact RN license required; pending license accepted only for candidates holding a single-state license from a non-compact state
- Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Ventilator/chronic trach patient care experience required
- Proficiency with EPIC electronic health record system required
- Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, and emergency response in a PCU, DOU, IMC, or stepdown setting
- Competency in respiratory support modalities including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, CPAP, and BiPAP
- Prior experience in a surgical PCU, stepdown, or IMC environment with exposure to bariatric or trauma patient populations
- Familiarity with ortho equipment, endoscopic tools, and multi-lumen line management
- Experience with tele-sitting workflows and remote telemetry monitoring systems
