RN Surgical PCU
The role is for a registered nurse specializing in the Surgical Progressive Care Unit. Shift hours are from 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM. The position requires the ability to perform cardiac monitoring, emergency response, and dysrhythmia interpretation and management. IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care skills are necessary. Experience with ventilator care for chronic trach patients is essential.
Medication administration, including cardiac drips, is expected, but titration is not required. Candidates must be skilled in respiratory support techniques, including the use of nasal cannula, oxygen administration, CPAP, and BiPAP. Activation of Rapid Response and Code teams is a part of the job. Isolation precautions and telemetry settings across PCU, DOU, IMC, and stepdown units are part of general duties.
Patient ratios typically are 1:5, with a staffing goal of 1:4. The unit acts as a stepdown from the General Surgical ICU and has a bariatric specialty. Required floating within the skillset may be required. Key equipment includes ortho equipment, chest tubes, surgical drains, trach equipment, endo tools, and PICC lines. Managed IV drips include Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, low-dose dopamine/dobutamine, and more.
Candidates must be comfortable with remote telemetry monitoring. The unit utilizes tele sitting to enhance patient care tech coverage. Interdisciplinary support will be available from various teams such as IV, Physical Therapy, Respiratory, and more. This position will involve care for adult patients with a variety of diagnoses, including neurosurgery and stroke. Special procedures include 24-hour epilepsy monitoring. Candidates must be flexible to work some weekends and at least one holiday per contract duration.
