Description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a PCU/MS Float position requiring VA or compact RN licensure and PCU experience with frequent floating between units.

Details
  • PCU/MS Float position within an acute care teaching hospital
  • Must be comfortable working across all PCU and Medical-Surgical units
  • PCU average ratio is 5:1 and MS average ratio is 6:1, may flex up to 7:1
  • Night shift schedule, 4x12 hours from 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM
  • Staffing needs reassessed every 4 hours, with potential to float 2-3 times per shift
  • Weekend requirement of either every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week schedule block
  • One holiday required per 13-week contract
  • EPIC EMR experience required
Requirements
  • Active Virginia State or Compact RN license required
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • CPI, NIHSS, and Trauma certifications preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Experience with 1:5 patient ratio required
  • Level I Trauma experience preferred
  • Experience in IV therapy, phlebotomy, and blood product administration required
  • Skilled in central line care, tracheostomy management, and non-invasive airway support (nasal cannula, CPAP/BiPAP, chest tubes)
  • Proficient in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation/management, and titrating cardiac drips
  • Experience responding to Rapid Response/Code team emergencies required
  • Capable of managing PCA and heparin protocols and administering IV insulin
  • Telemetry and stepdown-level (PCU/DOU/IMC) experience required
  • Cardiovascular experience in pre/post cardiac cath settings required
  • PICC line management, peripheral line care, and stable vent experience preferred
  • Continuous Bladder Irrigation (CBI) and feeding tube management experience preferred

  • Facility is the region's only Level I Trauma Center for both Adult and Pediatric patients
  • Magnet-designated for nursing excellence and affiliated with a medical school
  • Certified as an Advanced Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center
  • Provide care across PCU, DOU, IMC, stepdown, and orthopedic total joint replacement patients
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates may be accepted under specific radius-based eligibility rules
  • Candidates residing 50-99.9 miles from the facility may be considered for one 13-week assignment with no extension eligibility
  • Candidates residing less than 50 miles may be considered for one 13-week assignment at a lower rate with no extension eligibility
  • Previous employees (per diem or permanent) must have a minimum one-year separation before returning as a traveler
  • Travelers who have completed 365 days on assignment may not return regardless of separation period, with exceptions reviewed case-by-case
  • All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted at the time of application
