How You'll Help Transform Healthcare: 12‑bed ICU specializing in the care of trauma patients, and is the alternate unit for neuro patients as well as other surgery patients, including general surgery.
Responsibilities- Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates patient care to achieve optimum outcomes for patients of all ages.
- Completes age‑specific admission and ongoing assessments, documents, and uses them to develop a plan of care.
- Collaborates with the health‑care team, patients, and families to develop, implement, and evaluate an age‑specific interdisciplinary plan of care.
- Revises the plan according to changes in patient status.
- Administers and documents treatments and medications accurately using the electronic medical record system.
- Identifies and incorporates patient/family educational needs into the plan of care.
- Contributes to Carilion Clinic’s performance improvement activities.
- Advocates for patient rights and provides psychological, social, and cultural support.
- Applies knowledge of growth and development to appropriately care for patients served.
- Executes clinical, leadership, and educational pathways to support evidence‑based, quality patient care.
- Exhibits clinical expertise in rapidly changing circumstances.
- Plans strategies to reduce length of stay, turnaround time, resource consumption, and improve patient outcomes.
- Serves as a role model for clinical practice to coworkers, students, and physicians, managing resources and setting priorities.
- Completes manager/director predetermined projects within specified time frames and guidelines.
- Utilizes problem‑solving methods to resolve patient and personnel situations.
- Participates in orientation of new employees and provides feedback to staff.
- Contributes to practice, environment, and work issues by participating in unit, hospital, and system activities.
- Assists with education activities for the unit/department.
- Graduate of a professional nursing school of an accredited college or approved program eligible to sit for the VA licensure exam.
- Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in Virginia or eligible to obtain Virginia RN licensure.
- Required AHA BLS‑HCP; may need BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP based on unit.
- Computer skills necessary for electronic medical record (EPIC).
