About the Role

As a part of the patient care team, you will provide nursing care that includes taking patients’ blood pressure, checking their oxygen levels and temperature, and assisting patients of all sexes and genders with bathing, meals, toileting, ambulation, and other basic needs. The patient care technician performs basic clerical and technical clinical services relating to the care, cleanliness, safety, and comfort for patients of all ages and actively participates in unit responsibilities, quality surveillance, and shared governance.

A $7,500 sign‑on bonus is available when the external candidate meets applicable guidelines. The position is full time, working the day shift with every other weekend and rotating holidays. The 10

MTNPCU is a 20‑bed telemetry PCU specialized in general and bariatric surgery patients, including Enhanced Recovery (ERAS) patients, and also serves as an alternate unit for neurotrauma surgery patients, hospitalist/medicine patients, and urology/other surgery patients.

Responsibilities
  • Provide basic nursing care, assisting patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, meals, toileting, ambulation, and other basic needs.
  • Measure vital signs (blood pressure, oxygen saturation, temperature) and document observations in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Transport patients, supplies, specimens, and equipment within the facility.
  • Assist with wound care dressings, saline lock removal, and colostomy bag changes when competent and required.
  • Maintain patient, staff, and customer confidentiality.
  • Participate in unit quality surveillance activities and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Assist in patient flow coordination using unit‑specific software and intranet.
  • Provide customer service, including way‑finding, answering phones, and making meaningful connections with patients and visitors.
  • Assist with regulatory compliance tasks such as code cart checks, equipment room storage, and medication changes.
  • Support scheduling, covering lunch assignments, and other unit needs.
  • Contribute to shared governance and organization councils/committees.
  • Maintain cleanliness of waiting and break rooms and perform safety/environmental rounds.
  • Assist patients on suicide or safety precautions when appropriate.
  • Respond to stat orders and medication changes by notifying nurses promptly.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent education required.
  • Previous direct patient care experience preferred.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred; required for critical access facilities.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support – healthcare provider (BLS‑HCP) certified within6months of hire.
  • Effective interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Must complete required orientation classes Monday–Friday8a.m.–5p.m. the first two weeks.
  • Must successfully complete orientation and competency validation for the position.
