• Assume primary accountability for nursing coordination and provision of individualized care for patients of all ages.
• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care to achieve optimum outcomes, completing age‑specific admission and ongoing assessments that inform the plan of care.
• Collaborate with the health care team, patients, and families to develop, implement, and evaluate an interdisciplinary plan of care, revising it according to changes in patient status.
• Accurately administer and document treatments and medications for patients using the electronic medical record system.
• Identify and meet patient/family educational needs in a timely manner, incorporating them into the plan of care and documenting appropriately.
• Contribute to performance‑improvement activities and act as a patient advocate, protecting patients’ rights and providing psychological/social/cultural support.
• Apply knowledge of growth and development to care appropriately for patients served.
• Use clinical expertise in rapidly changing circumstances to plan strategies that reduce length of stay, turnaround time, and resource consumption while improving outcomes.
• Serve as a role model for clinical practice to coworkers, students, and physicians.
• Manage resources, establish priorities, and modify the environment to meet patient care needs.
• Complete manager/director‑predetermined projects within specified time frames and according to established guidelines.
• Facilitate resolution to patient and personnel situations using problem‑solving methods.
• Take an active role in the orientation of new employees and provide feedback to staff using appropriate communication and documentation.
• Participate in unit, hospital, and system activities that facilitate staff input and decision making, and assist with educational activities for the unit or department.

• Graduate of a school of professional nursing of an accredited college or an approved program eligible to sit for the VA licensure exam.

• Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in Virginia or eligible to obtain Virginia RN licensure.

• AHA BLS‑HCP required; may need to obtain/maintain BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP based on the specific work unit.

• Proficiency in electronic medical record systems (EPIC) required.
