- Neuro Vascular Step Down Unit (Open)
Sign on Bonus Available. A 26‑bed telemetry PCU specializing in the care and management of hospitalist medicine patients, with a primary focus on Stroke and Neurology diagnoses.
Responsibilities- Assume primary accountability for nursing coordination and provision of individualized care for patients of all ages.
- Utilize delegation and critical thinking skills to provide quality service through a team‑oriented, collaborative approach to patient care.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care to achieve optimum outcomes, completing age‑specific admission and ongoing assessments, documenting and using the data to develop care plans.
- Collaborate with health‑care team members, patients, and families to develop, implement, and evaluate age‑specific interdisciplinary plans of care, revising plans as patient status changes.
- Accurately administer treatments and medications, document in electronic medical records, and identify educational needs of patients and families, incorporating them into care plans.
- Contribute to Carilion Clinic’s performance‑improvement activities and serve as a patient advocate, protector of patient rights, and provider of psychological, social, and cultural support.
- Apply knowledge of growth and development to provide age‑appropriate care and demonstrate clinical expertise in rapidly changing circumstances.
- Plan strategies to reduce length of stay and improve patient outcomes, manage resources, establish priorities, and modify the environment to meet patient care needs.
- Complete predetermined projects within specified time frames according to established guidelines, using problem‑solving methods to resolve patient and personnel situations.
- Take an active role in orienting new employees, provide feedback to staff using appropriate communication and documentation, and participate in unit, hospital, and system activities that facilitate staff input in decision making.
- Graduate of a school of professional nursing from an accredited college or an approved program eligible to sit for the VA licensure exam.
- Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in Virginia or eligible to obtain Virginia RN licensure.
- AHA BLS‑HCP required; may need to obtain and maintain BLS, ACLS, PALS, or NRP based on specific unit requirements.
- Computer skills required for electronic medical records (EPIC).
