American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a PCU position requiring ventilator care experills and a VA or compact RN license.
Details- Work in a hybrid General Medicine PCU unit with 10 PCU beds and 2 ICU beds
- Care for vent/trach dependent patients with common diagnoses including DKA, COPD, sepsis, suicide/overdose, chronic respiratory failure, and renal failure
- 2 beds dedicated to chronic trach patients
- Typical patient ratio of 1:5 with a goal of 1:4
- Remote telemetry monitoring with tele sitting support to increase Patient Care Tech coverage
- Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours, 6:45 PM-7:15 AM
- Weekend requirement of every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week scheduling block
- Must work one holiday per 13-week contract, with 2 holidays required during winter holiday periods (Thanksgiving, Christmas/Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve/New Year's Day)
- Floating required within skillset across PCU, DOU, IMC, and stepdown units
- EPIC charting experience required
- Active VA State or Compact RN license required (pending license accepted only for candidates holding a single-state license from a non-compact state)
- Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- Experience with 1:5 patient ratios required
- Teaching hospital and Level I Trauma Center experience preferred
- Previous charge experience preferred
- Required skills:
cardiac monitoring, emergency response, and dysrhythmia interpretation/management - Required skills:
IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care - Required skills:
medication administration including cardiac drips (no titration) - Required skills:
respiratory support including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management - Required skills:
ventilator care for chronic trach and vent patients - Required skills:
isolation precautions and PPE use - Two professional references required for consideration
- Provide direct patient care in a Level I Trauma Center, Magnet-designated, academic teaching hospital affiliated with a medical school
- Participate in Rapid Response and Code team activation as needed
- Not recommended for first-time travelers
- Previous employees (per diem or permanent) must have a minimum one-year gap before returning as a traveler
- Travelers who have worked 365 days on assignment are not eligible to return, with exceptions reviewed case-by-case
- Local candidates may be accepted; radius requirements apply and may affect assignment length, extension eligibility, and pay rate
- All RTO and scheduling requests must be submitted upfront prior to assignment start
