As a registered nurse, you will consistently deliver the best in care and customer service, demonstrating respect, dignity, kindness and empathy in each encounter with patients, their families, visitors, and with each other. You will assume primary accountability for nursing coordination and individualized care for patients of all ages, utilizing delegation and critical thinking skills in a team-oriented, collaborative approach.
Responsibilities- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care to achieve optimum outcomes.
- Complete age‑specific admission and ongoing assessments, document, and develop care plans.
- Collaborate with the health care team, patients, and families to implement and evaluate interdisciplinary plans.
- Revise care plans according to changes in patient status.
- Accurately administer and document treatments and medications utilizing electronic medical records.
- Identify and address patient/family educational needs, incorporating them into care plans.
- Contribute to Carilion Clinic’s performance improvement activities, advocating for patients’ rights and support.
- Apply knowledge of growth and development to provide appropriate care.
- Support quality patient care service through evidence‑based practices and performance improvement initiatives.
- Plan strategies to reduce length of stay, turnaround time and resource consumption while improving outcomes.
- Act as a role model for clinical practice to coworkers, students, and physicians.
- Manage resources, set priorities, and modify environments to meet patient care needs.
- Complete manager/director predetermined projects within specified time frames and guidelines.
- Use problem‑solving methods to resolve patient and personnel situations.
- Participate actively in the orientation of new employees and provide constructive feedback.
- Contribute to practice and work environment improvements by participating in unit, hospital, and system activities.
- Assist with education activities for the unit/department.
- Education:
Graduate of a school of professional nursing at an accredited college or approved program eligible to sit for the VA licensure exam. - Licensure:
Currently licensed as Registered Nurse in Virginia or eligible to obtain Virginia RN licensure. - Life Support: AHA BLS‑HCP required; may require BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP based on specific unit.

Proficient with electronic medical record systems (EPIC).
