DescriptionAmerican Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Medical Surgical/Behavioral Health unit position requiring prior travel experience and a VA or compact RN license.
Details- Work on a 12-bed specialized inpatient unit caring for adult patients with complex medical conditions, co-occurring behavioral health needs, and substance use disorders
- Unit focuses on assessment, stabilization, and treatment through integrated medical and behavioral health interventions
- Multidisciplinary team approach including physicians, nurses, therapists, case managers, and addiction specialists
- Weekend requirement of every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week scheduling block
- Floating required within skillset
- May be required to work as charge nurse and to precept
- Facility may call off up to 1 shift per 2-week period
- EPIC charting system experience required
- Active VA State or Compact RN license required (single-state license from non-compact state may be accepted pending)
- Current BLS certification required
- Prior travel nursing experience required
- Minimum 1 year of charge nurse experience
- Proficient in Med/Surg care with experience using Rapid Response/Code teams
- Skilled in peripheral line care/management, IV therapy/phlebotomy, and isolation precautions/PPE
- Experienced in respiratory care including nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, and oxygen administration/tanks
- EPIC charting experience required
- Provide integrated medical and behavioral health nursing care supporting patients experiencing substance withdrawal, behavioral challenges, and mental health concerns
- Support recovery-oriented treatment, medication management, behavioral support, and discharge planning
- Work in a Level I Trauma Center (adult and pediatric) that is also a certified stroke center and Magnet-designated teaching hospital
- Must work one holiday per 13-week contract, with 2 holidays required during winter holiday period (Thanksgiving, Christmas/Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve/New Year's)
- First-time travelers will not be accepted for this position
- Local candidates accepted, subject to radius rule criteria
- Previous employees (per diem or permanent) must have a minimum one-year break before returning as a traveler
- Travelers who have worked 365 days on assignment are not eligible to return, regardless of separation period, with case-by-case exceptions reviewed by facility leadership
