The Resource Pool offers endless opportunities to expand nursing experiences across diverse units including Med‑Surg, PCU, ICU, ED Observation, Inpatient Rehab, and Psych.
As a float RN you will provide quality, compassionate care to patients of all ages in a variety of specialties such as Pediatrics, PICU, NICU, M/B, and ICU tracks.
- Coordinate and deliver individualized patient care across multiple units, adapting to new clinical environments as staffing needs require.
- Administer medications, IV fluids, blood products, and perform advanced interventions (e.g., pain control, sedation, hemodynamic support).
- Conduct rapid trauma assessments, manage airway, breathing, circulation (ABCs), and provide emergency care including CPR, airway management, IV therapy, and wound care.
- Assist with trauma surgeries and post‑surgical ICU care, monitoring for complications such as infection, hemorrhage, and organ dysfunction.
- Provide wound care, dressing changes, and support for patients experiencing psychological trauma, offering crisis intervention when needed.
- Precept and mentor new employees, contribute to orientation, and share best practices with peers, students, and physicians.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, and performance improvement activities.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to safety protocols, including fall prevention and infection control.
- Graduate of a professional nursing school;
Bachelor of Nursing required. - Minimum 1 year of clinical nursing experience preferred.
- Current RN license in the state of Virginia required; new graduates eligible to sit for the licensure exam.
- AHA BLS‑HCP required; may need to obtain/maintain BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP based on the specific work unit.
- Proficiency in advanced trauma life support (ATLS), ACLS, and other trauma‑specific protocols.
- Keyboarding and computer literacy for automated computer systems (EMR).
- Ability to make fast, accurate decisions in high‑stress environments and multitask effectively.
- Excellent communication skills for multidisciplinary coordination and patient/family education.
- Physical and emotional resilience to handle demanding, fast‑paced, emotionally challenging patient care.
